Then we comes to the central part. What to prepare in order to make hot pot at home. Please note that I list most of the ingredients you may need.
Part I Equipment
The first thing is the pot and heater.It is really easy to move and strong at power. I use an electric burner and pot separately. Another choice is to purchase a electric cooker with the pot like this Shabu Shabu Hot Pot, Electric Mongolian Hot Pot W/DIVIDER. But show cooker is not recommended for hot pot since the long needed is a little bit long.
Then you may need long chopsticks, hot pot scoop and strainer. Prepare according to the size of your eating group.
Part II Soup Bases
The soup base is the coral part of making hot pot at home. If you do not have enough time, just purchase the packaged hot pot soup base. And generally there are two types of soup bases.
1. spicy version

Then if you want to make it at home, following ingredients are needed.
Chicken bones and pork bones—-use whole chicken and several pork bones.
Doubanjiang—try to find some in Asia market or get from Amazon
Dried chili pepper and Sichuan Peppercorn
Star anise, cassia bark, bay Leaves, fennel
garlic, ginger and shallots
2. Clear version
There is a choice to purchase online or making at home. Ingredients as listed below.
Chicken bones and pork bones
garlic, ginger and shallots
Tomato carrots and celery —to add some fresh taste.

Part III Dips
Following are the common used condiments and seasonings used in dips.
Main sauces: Sha cha sauce, peanuts sauce, oyster sauce, Sufu (fermented bean curd)
Oil: chili oil, sesame oil
Other condiments: dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, Vinegar ,salt, chicken essence
Others: roasted peanuts, coriander, mashed garlic, Spring onion
Part IV Meat and Vegetables
Meat: Chicken, fish, duck, pork, beef, meat balls, seafood and crab
Vegetables: Chinese cabbages, Bean sprouts, green leafy vegetables, shallots
Bean curd product: Tofu, tofu skin, frozen tofu
Fungus: Black fungus, mushrooms, needle mushrooms
